Johnny Depp to Star in New Film

Peter Weir (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) has announced that he is set to direct the film Shantaram, which will star Johnny Depp.
Weir is currently working on the script with Eric Roth, and the studio is hoping to begin filming in Autralia and India next year.

The movie, based on the autobiography of David Roberts, is the story of a heroin addict who spends 19 years in prison for arms and drug trafficking.

It is expected to be out in 2007.
